Biliary outflow obstruction can occasionally be challenging to diagnose. Tc99-Mebrofenin is excreted via the bile. Therefore, it should appear in the duodenum after injection as shown below. The absence of Tc99-Mebrofenin excretion is supportive of biliary obstruction.
